The Prague Spring International Music Festival. The 72nd year to bring a number of stars

The Czech capital has plenty more to offer than just historical buildings and places to go for a trip. It also offers infinity of experiences that are guaranteed to enrich you spiritually and culturally. The international music festival Pražské jaro (Prague Spring) may serve as an example. Become a part of it by visiting it between May 12 and June 2, 2017.

The informal opening ceremony to take place at Kampa

Turn your regular Friday afternoon on May 12, 2017 into something really special. Come to the Kampa park and get carried away by the laid-back atmosphere of the Prague Spring Music Festival informal opening ceremony. Perch yourselves next to your picnic basket and watch the sold out 72nd Prague Spring opening concert live from the historic building of Obecní dům (the Municipal House). The concert starts at 8pm. “Má vlast” (My Fatherland), a famous masterpiece written by the Czech composer Bedřich Smetana, will be played by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (conducted by Daniel Barenboim), an ensemble considered by many to be the best in the world.

The festival offers a range of music stars from the whole world

The Prague Spring Music Festival has traditionally brought the most brightly shining music stars and this year is no different. Opera lovers are eagerly anticipating the performance of Diana Damrau, one of the best contemporary opera singers, and her husband Nicolas Testé, the French bass-baritone. The couple are set to perform a selection of famous 19th century arias as part of their European tour Belcanto Drammatico. The Italian ensemble La Compagnia del Madrigale is going to perform a selection of madrigals by Claudio Monteverdi.

The festival will also feature a number of other distinguished guests such as the Toronto Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Peter Oundjian. One of the most significant Canadian cultural institutions is going to perform with the Russian violinist star Maxim Vengerov, who is going to stand on a stage in the Czech Republic after a long 18 years. The young rising star Rócio Márquez is going to perform as part of the Spanish cycle of the Prague Spring Music Festival.

The baroque orchestra Forma Antiqva, one of the most sought-after music ensembles in Spain, promises a lovely enrichment of the festival program. Last but not the least, we must not forget the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Kristjan Järvi, this year performing with the solo pianist Lukáš Vondráček. This, of course, is not an exhaustive list. There are many more artists to look forward to.

The Břetislavka team wish you memorable experiences at the Prague Spring Music Festival.
