New Year’s Eve in Prague

Spending the last day of the year in the Czech capital? While it’s perfectly okay to stay at home on the evening of December 31, how about taking a more active approach and celebrating out in the street? Below you can find some tips on where to go on New Year’s Eve.

New Year’s Eve under the open sky

Pretty much the whole centre of Prague will turn into a huge party on New Year’s Eve. The most lively spots will definitely be the Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí) and Wenceslaus Square (Václavské náměstí). A New Year’s Eve party in the Old Town Square starts as early as 5pm  and continues until midnight. A number of bands (So Fine, DJ Mikael Van Dikeen and Party Leaders) are to perform while you wait for the new year to come. This will be a multi-genre concert that will bring the most popular and successful tunes – contemporary as well as those that came out in the 1950s-1990s. Some of the songs will be in the Czech language, other songs will be in English. Visitors will be charged no entrance fee. Refreshment stalls will be available.

New Year’s Eve on the boat

New Year’s Eve is not just about clubbing and partying to death. One may also celebrate it in a more romantic way – such as on board a boat. There are special New Year’s Eve cruises offering live music on board, delicious food and a multitude of drinks at the bar. And this is all complemented by picturesque night time views of Prague. If you want to experience something truly exclusive – such as clinking glasses in the middle of the River Vltava, right under 14th century Charles Bridge and the open sky ablaze with countless hues created by fireworks, we recommend you go for this. We also recommend you make a reservation in advance as the boats have limited capacities.

New Year’s Eve in the sky

You don’t have to keep your feet on the ground. A cool place to clink glasses of champagne is the Žižkov Tower (Žižkovská věž). The tower gives you much more than a terrific spot to observe all the fireworks launched throughout the evening in the whole of the capital. There is also a restaurant at the top of the tower offering food, beverages, music and an opportunity to dance. The restaurant, which is among the best 20 restaurants in Prague, is called “Oblaca” – the Czech for “cloulds”. This is a highly appropriate name for a venue found 93 metres above the ground. As the restaurant has a limited capacity, visitors interested in the event called New Year’s Eve in the Sky must reserve a table in advance.

Wherever you choose to spend it, the whole Břetislavka Residence team wish you delightful New Year’s Eve and a very happy new year.
