Modern sports in Prague

One can do a large number of sports in Prague. Whether the weather is nice or not and whatever the season, there are always plenty of opportunities to do some exercise – outdoor and indoor. What is more, Prague manages to keep up with modern trends. This means that even if you do an unusual modern sport, the odds are quite high you will have a chance to continue doing it while staying in Prague.

We have given you tons of tips about where to do some exercise in the summer and in the winter. Also, we have offered tips about where to go for a jog, a swim, and where to go skating. This time round we are bringing some tips about where to do some unusual modern sporting activities.

Spikeball

Spikeball is a newbie sport. Bringing tons of fun to players, it is a dynamic team game played with a ball. Based on classic volleyball, it is played on a special kind of trampoline using a small ball. Two individuals or two pairs may play against each other in this game. Pretty much like in volleyball, a team scores a point once the other team fails to return the ball. One can fail to return the ball by either missing the net completely, or hitting it off the rim of the net. If that happens, the player loses that point. If you are a spikeball enthusiast, we recommend you visit Ladronka Park or Stromovka Park where fellow spikeballers meet on a regular basis. Prague Spikeball Open is a championship taking place at Dejvice Stadium (Stadion mládeže) in Prague 6. The championship takes place under the aegis of a local youth organization and is open to anybody who wants to give this exciting game a try.

Outdoor fitness

As long as the sun retains its ability to warm us up, you can have a workout under the open sky. There are plenty equipped outdoor gyms with free entrance. One is in Ladronka Park in Prague 6, another one in Obora Game Reserve and yet another one in front of the reserve where Za Oborou Street and Pozdeňská Street cross. If you happen to be in Vinohrady, there is also an outdoor gym in Havlíčkovy sady. You can also find outdoor workout equipment in Sport Park in Podolí as well as in a number of other places.

Ropes course

If you seek a bit of adrenaline, visit a ropes course. If heights do not make you dizzy, we recommend a bit of adventure in the ropes course Proud in Vysočany or in the popular ropes course in Gutovka or Prosek. All you need to do is bring some sports clothes and a little money. The staff will make sure that you are always safe in spite of the heights. You will need no special equipment. Everything will be provided to you on the spot. There is also a large public ropes course within the Fun Island premises in Císařská louka.

Discgolf

A number of discgolf courses have cropped up in Prague recently. Based on classic golf, discgolf is a game for patient players. The aim is to get a flying “saucer” into a steel basket using the lowest number of throws possible. One can play discgolf in Ladronka in Prague 6. Alternatively, one may commute to DiscGolfPark Krejcárek in Žižkov. And there is also a course in Stodůlky and in Chodov. Do not despair if you have no discs of your own. These can be rented on the spot.

The Břetislavka Residence team wish you loads of fun while doing sport in Prague.
