Prague in winter offers fantastic ice skating opportunities

Ice asking and winter are like fish and water. They go together. What is more, there are few more romantic things to experience in winter than ice asking in the open air. And if you have no ice skates of your own, don’t worry. You can borrow skates at most ice skating venues in Prague.

There are plenty of open-air ice skating venues in Prague and they’re all waiting for you. The Břetislavka team will be happy to give you tips on which one to choose.

Džbán lake may be the best open-air place for ice skating in Prague

A great place to go is the Ďžbán lake in Divoká Šárka, a perfect retreat for those who love natural ice skating in the country. In case of a mild winter, one can opt for Vítězné náměstí in Prague 6. In the area where farmers market takes place (corner of Šolínova and Technická Street), one can find an artificial ice skating rink with dimensions of 18 to 25 metres. Entrance is free and the venue is open daily (9am-9pm) until the end of February.

If going a bit farther from Břetislavka is no problem, one can choose from a number of other venues:

  • Prague 1, na Františku: an open-air ice rink (40 to 20 metres) is open daily for anyone to visit. Entrance is CZK 50.
  • Prague 3, Žižkov: a charming open-air ice rink is located right under the Žižkov Tower (Žižkovská věž). If the weather permits, the rink is 30 meters long and 14 meters wide and opens daily. Entrance fee is CZK 100, romantic ice skating in the evening costs CZK 120. There is also an open-air bar serving many sorts of beverages and dishes – hot punch, mulled wine, hot chocolate, grilled meat, and many others.
  • Prague 1, Ovocný trh: open-air ice skating can also be enjoyed in the very centre of Prague in Ovocný trh. The rink (14 to 30 metres) is open daily between 10am and 9 pm.
  • Prague 9, Harfa shopping centre: if you love ice skating but find regular rinks not exciting enough, we have a hot tip for you. Go to Prague 9 and experience skating on the roof of Harfa shopping centre. A 30 to 20-metre ice rink is ready for you to enjoy provided there have been enough frosty days. It is open daily between 3pm and 6:30pm (8:30 on Saturday) and entrance costs CZK 50.

Hesitate no more and see for yourself how exciting winter in Prague can be. The Břetislavka team hope you will have tons of fun and unforgettable experiences.
