Are you an avid reader? If so, we have some great news for you. There are a number of libraries close to Břetislavka so you don’t have to bring any books or part with them for the duration of your stay. Pack and travel light instead.
Národní technická knihovna (The Czech National Library of Technology) is situated at Technická Street 2710/6 Prague 6 on the university premises. It boasts over one million books which makes it the largest source of technical literature in the Czech Republic. The beautiful building whose modern design delightfully combines glass and concrete is also the seat of the Municipal Library of Prague where memorable moments can be enjoyed every day except Sunday. Comfortable furniture for sitting as well as lying is one of the things that make this place exceptionally reader-friendly as is the fact that there are a number of quiet corners promising privacy. In addition, there is a pleasant cafe where one can spend hours with some of the best books ever written. A car journey (3 km) from Břetislavka takes about 6 minutes, public buses arriving in 20-minute intervals will get you here in 12 minutes.

Prague 6 has a street library
If you don’t have enough time to spend roaming from one library shelf to the other, we have some great news. Prague 6 boasts a street library! The library can be found in Prague Dejvice (náměstí Svobody) in a small park just in front of the town hall. Books are stored right in the street in such a way that they cannot be damaged by wind or water; however, anyone can access them just by opening a hatch. The library somewhat resembles a cabinet or a fridge and is open 24 hours a day. There are no fees or registration. Just come over and pick the book you like. Anyone can borrow any book from the library and take it back anytime. There is a sticker on each book that says where the book belongs to make returning as simple as possible. The organizers believe that none of the books will ever get lost and that all book lovers will eventually return their “best friends”. Also, anyone can donate any book and contribute to this unique and helpful project.
What about jogging a little to keep in shape? There are a number of running paths around Břetislavka you can use while staying in Prague.
