Adrenaline pumping activities in Prague

Prožijte v Praze Exit game nebo navštivte větrný tunel

Okay, so you know where to strap on your skis in Prague. What you may not know is how to pronounce Krkonoše properly, but we are sure you’re aware that the highest Czech mountains are a terrific – and easy to reach – place to head for in the winter. We’ve also told you about the amazing spots (some of which are close to Břetislavka Residence) Prague has to offer if you love ice skating under the open sky. What we haven’t written about yet is where to go if it’s adrenaline pumping activities that you’re looking for. Well, let’s start by saying there are plenty of those!

Wind tunnel

If you’re an adventurous person, don’t hesitate to try a free fall simulator. This is, in fact, a wind tunnel where wind speed soars to hurricane levels, ensuring an experience during which hefty amounts of adrenaline flood your bloodstream. When untamed, wind flow of this velocity gives people the creeps. However, Hurricane Factory in Letňany as well as ICE ARENA (also in Letňany) promise a perfectly safe experience under supervision of professional instructors.

Wondering what it’s like to fight against wind speeds up to 270km an hour? Hesitate no more and book a session! This can last from just about two minutes (even this is unforgettable) to over an hour, although the venue recommends people with limited experience do not fly for more than 20 minutes a day!

Escape games to test your self-preservation instinct

You may have heard about escape games. These are fun activities with an aim to get you out of a closed space. You’re definitely going to need to be ingenious to solve a variety of puzzles prepared for you. But what’s equally important is not to lose your head when under pressure and your life is at stake (not literally, of course). If you believe you can keep your fear and exorbitant amounts of adrenaline at bay, how about giving this a try? Do you think you can find an escape route before it’s too late? Well, you need to see for yourself!

Escape games are a terrific way to discover who you really are, to see how you respond to life or death situations and crises. If this feels like a must, be aware that the closest venue – EXIT GAME RUNAWAY – is located in Dejvice, that is not far from Břetislavka. It takes you to a multitude of time and space dimensions so you’re sure to enjoy a fantastic experience.

Alternatively, you can head for EXIT ROOM in Žižkov where you’re going to face a challenge no less demanding than how to escape from Alcatraz.

Another alternative is centrally located Questroom. There are two rooms and two stories to choose from.

Finally, there is an escape game venue called The Chamber that offers a multitude of room types. You can’t go wrong. Each of the rooms offers adrenaline-pumping stories you won’t forget till the end of your life.

Wherever you choose go in Prague, the Břetislavka Residence team wish you a great time and tons of amazing experiences!

Outdoor ice skating is an exciting way to keep in shape in winter. Great news is Prague boasts a number of venues

Veřejné bruslení v Praze

Winter days in Prague might and might not get dreary, depending on how you spend them. An exciting and healthy way to spend your free time in the winter is taking up ice skating. There are a bunch of outdoor rinks all over the capital. And as ice skating (and hockey) are incredibly popular in the country, this is a great way to get to know more about the culture (in Hawaii they surf, in the Czech Republic they ice skate). Great news is you can borrow ice skates at a number of venues. So even if you don’t possess any (or they didn’t fit in your luggage), there’s no need to despair.

A farmers market in the summer, an ice rink in the winter. Prague 6 has lots of faces

Remember Kulaťák? This is where the ice rink nearest to Břetislavka is situated. Officially called Vítězné náměstí (Victory Square), Kulaťák in Prague-Dejvice is the place for ice skaters to go until the end of February. The artificial rink, which measures 18 by 25 metres, is found where farmers market takes place in the summer (i.e. by Šolínova Street) and is open daily 9am – 9pm. There is no entrance fee here and you can also borrow skates. Should you get thirsty or hungry, a refreshments stall is just off the rink.

Šestka shopping mall now has an ice rink too

If Šestka in Prague 6 is where you usually do your shopping, there’s a delightful opportunity for you to kill two proverbial birds with one equally proverbial stone. You can get your groceries here as usual. But since an ice rink has recently cropped up right next to the mall, what you can also do here is work on your skating skills as well as figure. The rink opens daily 9am – 9pm (i.e. when the mall is open). A day ticket is CZK 50. If the Atlantic Ocean (or any other ocean or sea, for that matter) separates you and your skates, you can also borrow skates here for CZK 80.

Ovocný trh ice rink

How about ice skating in the very historical heart of Prague? If that sounds like a must, there is an ice rink next to Stavovské divadlo (Estates Theatre). Measuring 14 by 30 metres, the rink is here for you to enjoy until the end of January 2019. You won’t be charged anything to polish your pirouettes and triple tulups. And the venue opens 10am – 9pm. Not having your own skates is a problem that a few coins will solve, so the only thing you mustn’t forget is enthusiasm.

Go for a spin right under the Žižkov Tower

Yes, we are talking about the place where you had a picnic in the summer. On cold winter days Žižkov is not exactly popular with picnic and outdoor barbecue lovers. But that doesn’t mean all you can do here is wait for the spring to come. Quite on the contrary. 2019 marks the fourth year the grass covered area is turned into an ice kingdom of sorts. Weather permitting, there is a generously dimensioned ice rink (30 by 14 metres) open until March. The rink welcomes skaters 12-2pm, 3-5pm and 6-9pm on working days. And morning opening hours (9-11am) are added to the standard opening hours at weekends. Morning/afternoon ticket costs CZK 100, evening skating will cost you CZK 120. Great news is you can also rent skates for CZK 50. There is no way for you to get thirsty or hungry here as home-made punch, hot wine, grilled specialties and lots more will be available for purchase right at the venue.

Grab your skates and head for Letná

Some say size matters; others disagree. Whatever camp you belong to, please, be informed that the largest outdoor ice rink in Prague (40 by 15 metres) is to be found in the Letná park opposite the Sparta Prague Football Stadium. The venue is open daily (9am – 9pm) through February 24. Skating won’t cost you a bit as no entrance fee is charged.

Bruslení Na Františku

Na Františku in Prague 1 boasts yet another outdoor ice rink for you to make the most of. The rink is open to the public daily till mid-March. A ticket costs CZK 70 and the opening hours are as follows:

  • Mon, Wed, Thur: 8am-3pm; 3:30-5:30pm
  • Tue: 11:30am-3pm; 3:30-5:30pm
  • Fri: 8am-1pm; 4-5pm
  • Sat: 10:30am-12; 12:30-2:30pm; 3-5pm; 5:30-7:00pm
  • Sun: 10am-12; 12:30-2:30pm; 3-5pm

If you’re among those who love ice cream, Výstaviště Holešovice (The Holešovice Exhibition Grounds) is the place to go on Sunday June 17 (from 10am). In addition to tons of ice cream, there will be a program including a number of exciting workshops and contests. And if you want something to complement the experience in a very, very special way, how about checking out the largest mummy exhibition in the world or the breath-taking program of Křižík’s Fountain?

Mystic Sk8 Cup 2018 in Prague 7

If you find skateboarding attractive, mark the first holiday weekend in late June/early July in your diary. Štvanice, one of the River Moldau islands, is to host some of the best skateboarders who are to come and demonstrate their street skateboarding and bowl skateboarding skills. The event also promises an exciting program that includes a number of gigs (bands will be from the Czech Republic and from abroad), cold and delicious beer, exhibitions, international cuisine and an evening party. If this sounds good to your ear, don’t hesitate to turn up. It’ll be worth it.

The Břetislavka Residence team wish you an incredible time spent in the Czech capital.

Tons of exciting events to take place in Prague in May

There is no such thing as boredom in Prague. Just like all other months, May is also full of events of all kinds. It’s getting incredibly hard to resist the temptation to take a walk in delightful weather such as this. And even in case of occassional rain or thunder, there’s no reason to despair because there are plenty of churches, museums, galleries and many other sights and monuments whose doors are open whatever the weather. If you haven’t made up your mind yet, below is a list of May events in Prague which are worth visiting.

Prague Spring

May 12 – June 6, 2018

The 73rd International Music Festival Prague Spring kicks off in only a few days. The first piece to be played by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in Obecní Dům (Municipal House) is Smetana’s My Fatherland (under the baton of Tomáš Netopil this time round). This is arguably the most significant classical music event in the country with over 50 classical concerts by Czech ensembles as well as guests from abroad being offered. What makes this year special is it celebrates the 100th anniversary of the date the Czechoslovak Republic was established. Also commemorated will be the 100th anniversary of the day Leonard Bernstein was born. Bernstein, the American conductor, composer, music teacher and popularizer that has appeared countless times on TV, probably needs no further introduction. The program lasts for 3 weeks and is sure to satisfy all classical music buffs.

Food&Culture Festival at Kulaťák

May 12 at Kulaťák, Prague 6

Gourmets, rejoice! A farmers market which is to take place at Kulaťák on May 12, promises to bring a truly unique experience. The square is to turn into a vibrant showroom where cuisines from all over the globe are represented. This is your chance to treat your taste buds to traditional as well as exotic dishes and drinks of all kinds. The gastronomic festival will be accompanied by a rich cultural program too to ensure you’re entertained all through it.

A cycling trip of a lifetime

May 12, Václavské náměstí (Wenceslaus Square)

If doing some exercise is what you’re up to, how about a cycling trip on May 12? This will be a huge cycling event consisting of a large number of cyclists heading for Wenceslaus Square in the four cardinal directions. Good news is by taking part you not only do something for your health. You also help a good cause, which is to demonstrate to the Prague Town Hall supporting bike transportation makes sense. You can leave Břetislavka and take the north-eastern route that starts off at tram terminal station Sídliště Řepy at 1pm. Continue along the A15 via Hvězda, Petřiny, Veleslavín, Šárecké údolí, Podbaba, Stromovka, Revoluční and Wenceslaus Square. The journey is not very demanding so don’t be afraid you will sweat to death.

The peloton then leave the square at about 2:45pm and continue via Nuselský Bridge to the inner courtyard of Petrohradská kolektiv, an arts organization, where you can grill a sausage and dance at an afterparty. If it sounds cool, that’s because it really is!

Velká jarní cyklojízda vám dopřeje projížďku po pražských silnicích bez aut

Alternatively, you can get yourself a ticket at the doors. The price is CZK 500 (300 of which can be exchanged for the delicious dishes on display).

The 2018 Church Night

May 25, 2018 6pm-11pm

The last Friday in May is to turn into a holy day of sorts. This is because a number of churches, towers, sacristies, chapels and cloisters that are normally closed to the public will open on that day. The organizers seek to popularize Christinity not only during commented evening tours but also by cultural programs, concerts and theatrical performances. So if you feel like having a glass of delicious rosé, Náplavka is the place to go.

The Břetislavka Residence team wish you an incredible time spent in the Czech capital.

ŠUTR: a challenge for every athlete

Vytrvalostní běžecké závody pražský ŠUTR 2018

The spring is on its way, sun rays are getting more and more intensive, and the countryside is turning greener. If you are among those who are not inspired to do sports in the winter but feel rejuvenated by the arrival of the spring and its special scent, we have a tip for you. A running race called Jarní ŠUTR takes place on May 19, 2018 in Divoká Šárka park. So if keeping in good shape is one of your priorities, make sure you turn up.

A long-distance race

Jarní ŠUTR” is the Czech for “spring stone”. Yes, we know it doesn’t tell much about what to expect from the race. Well, it has another name, one that gives you a bit of an idea – Šárecký Ultra Trail. And the race really is what its name suggests. The racing circuit, which is found in the beautiful natural preserve Divoká Šárka, is 18 kilometres (over 11 miles) long. And if you think your legs and lungs can do it, you can run along the circuit as many as four times, amassing a total of 72 kilometres. The race first took place in 2010 when 13 competitors ran 54 kilometres. Back then, this was the only option while today you can choose from 18, 36, 54 and 72 kilometres.

Sporting in the countryside

The popularity of the running race has risen steadily with long-distance running enthusiasts turning up in larger numbers every year. It doesn’t come as much of a surprise as 70% of the circuit is a pleasant forest trail, only a minor section being an asphalt road. Let’s get things straight here. This is not an easy jog for everyone regardless of age and health condition. But if you are not a complete beginner, we recommend you give it a try and sign up. The number of competitors is limited so the sooner you do so the better. The circuit is not that demanding and it is definitely worth it. After all, no one is going to make faces if you exit the race halfway through.

If you believe this is not an event for you, there are plenty more to choose from, many of which take place close to Břetislavka.

Train hard, fight easy

A great thing about Divoká Šárka is there are countless running paths all over the natural preserve. So if you are not really sure you are good enough to take part in ŠUTR, putting on your running shoes and shorts and trying your stamina might seem to be a cool idea. Other great places for sportspeople in Prague are Hvězda, a game preserve in Prague 6, and Stromovka park, originally a game preserve too.
Vytrvalostní běžecké závody v parku Šárka

The Břetislavka Residence team wish you nerves of steel while discovering and exceeding your limits.

The third year of one of the biggest sports events in central Europe!

If you are a fitness, body building, performance or martial sports buff – or indeed if you love sport in general – you should not miss this event.

An adventure golf match in O2 Arena is a great way of relaxing on (not only) a cold rainy day

If you like being active while you relax, this is a tip for you. On cold and dreary days like there even those of us who normally prefer outdoor sports to indoor ones may feel tempted to do some exercise under the roof. If that is the case, the adventure golf course in 02 Arena is a place to go.

Adventure golf is an exciting combination of golf and minigolf

You can play some golf or train alone or you can invite your friends. This is an activity all age groups will soon fall in love with. And it is becoming more and more popular even with professional and semi-professional golf players. What is this all about? The golf course in 02 Arena has 18 lanes with a number of various obstacles and uneven surfaces. In terms of size, this is definitely a minigolf course. However, the large number of obstaces and the multitude of surfaces including sand, grass, gravel and ditches make it very similar to classic golf. Also, the course is roofed and has artificial grass so you do not have worry about getting wet in the rain. Great news could be also that, considering the size of the course, you do not have to walk that much.

All you need to do is put some comfortable clothes on and make it to 02 Arena. You do not need to worry about clubs and balls as you can rent them at the venue. An adult ticket is CZK 179/hour + CZK 45 for an additional 15 minutes.

Once you have finished playing, you can have some refreshments in a cosy café. It is possible to have an exciting birthday party or a company event here. After all it sounds cool to combine celebrating with a dramatic and highly absorbing golf match, doesn’t it? Also, the staff are happy to prepare a snack bar for you and assist you with any other preparations you need to make.

The Břetislavka Residence team wish you vám přeje v životě mnoho správných a šťastných tref a to nejlepší skóre.

Outdoor skating: The ice rink right under the Žižkov Tower is open through the middle of March

We have some very good news for everyone who has fallen in love with ice skating. And those of you who have not tried yet may rejoice too. Prague offers a number of open-air ice rinks such as the one right under the Žižkov Tower. Good news also is the ice rink will be there for you to enjoy until mid-March.

Tower Ice Park promises unforgettable open-air skating experiences. You can also rent skates here

The outdoor ice rink in the Mahlerovy Sady park right under the Žižkov Tower has become a traditional place for romantically-minded ice skating lovers. One of the great things about this rink is it remains open until mid-March while other open-air rinks close much sooner. Even if you do not have skates of your own, do not worry. You can rent a pair right at the rink. The opening hours of the venue are as follows: Monday to Friday: 12pm – 9pm, Saturday and Sunday: 9am – 9pm. There is a refreshments stall right next to the rink where you can buy plenty of kinds of beverages including mulled wine. And no worries if you come hungry, they also serve food such as grilled chicken.

The Břetislavka Residence team wish you tons of memorable and safe sporting experiences while you stay in Prague.

Regular skibuses take skiers from Prague to the mountains and back

Z Prahy vás skibusy dovezou do Krkonoš

Prague covered in 5 or more inches of snow is far from an unusual spectacle. There are, however, winters that are not quite as generous in terms of snow coverage as they could be. If that is the case and putting on your cross-country skis in one of the parks in the capital is not really an option, winter sports lovers do not need to despair. Great news is you can play it safe by making a trip to Krkonoše – the highest mountains in the country – where there is plenty of snow these days. There are regular skibuses that take skiers from Prague to Krkonoše and back.

Departure from Prague – Černý Most

It may be a challenge for an expatriate to pronounce the name of the highest mountains in the country correctly. It is definitely worth going there for a trip, though, especially if you are a lover of winter sports. Great thing is there is a regular bus connection between the capital and Herlíkovice, a ski resort high enough in the mountains to guarantee sufficient snow cover anytime during the winter. The bus goes via the towns of Poděbrady and Mladá Boleslav and continues to Jičín and Nová Paka. Alternatively, you can go skiing in other resorts such as Šachty or Kamenec, in which case you need to take the skibus going via Mladá Boleslav, Turnov and Semily.

A regular express skibus from Prague to Špindlerův Mlýn

City Ski offers regular express skibuses that take skiers from Prague to Špindlerův Mlýn, a trendy and stylish ski resort in the Krkonoše mountains. The pick-up point is the bus terminal situated by the metro station Palmovka in Prague. You need to be here at 6:40 am. And the bus reaches Špindlerův Mlýn at around 9 am (depending on traffic). You can use the bus to get back to Prague as well. It departs at 4:15 pm and reaches the capital two hours later.

Z Prahy odjíždějí pravidelně skibusy do Krkonoš

The Břetislavka Residence team wish you exciting experiences skiing in the Krkonoše mountains.

The Břetislavka Residence is among buildings of the year

The newly-constructed building of the Břetislavka Residence has drawn the attention of architects and designers. The prestigious magazine Dolce Vita included it, in its June edition, on its list of the most interesting buildings of the year.

Břetislavka – one of the architecture and design gems of the month

Dolce Vita is among the design bibles that set modern trends. It is said that no interesting project escapes the eyes of their critics. On a monthly basis, these critics seek unique structures and subsequently provide their audience with more information about them. The Břetislavka Residence project was included on their list of architecture and design gems introduced in the magazine this month.

The Břetislavka Residence is a unique exploit of Matyáš Sedlák’s, one of the partners in the architectural office M4 Architects (m4 architekti s.r.o.). While projecting his vision to modernize the original building and to extend it in a modern way, Sedlák and his team took into consideration the landscape and architecture in the area. As of now, the modernized historical building of the Břetislavka inn has been transformed into what could possibly be seen as the centre of the cultural, social and sports life in the whole of the Šárecké Údolí Valley. The whole project is aptly complemented by a newly-opened garden restaurant and a break-out area for residents.

The result is an airy complex of buildings that resonates with the surrounding countryside.

On behalf of the whole Břetislavka team we would like to wish all our guests and passers-by a lovely time both in the accommodation facility and the restaurant.
