The Summer Shakespeare Festival at Prague Castle

The premises of the Prague Castle have traditionally hosted the Summer Shakespeare Festival. Come over to the Royal Gardens and soak up the atmosphere of this unique cultural event under the open sky.

One-of-a-kind event

The Summer Shakespeare Festival is the oldest as well as the largest theatre festival in Europe focused on providing an overview of William Shakespeare’s oeuvre. Initiated by the first Czechoslovak president Václav Havel in 1990, the festival showcases popular Czech actors who have studied the famous English playwright’s masterpieces. Don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy culture at its best represented by the timeless plots of Shakespeare’s plays.

This year, the festival takes place in the Royal Gardens of Prague Castle in front of Míčovna. The gardens may be accessed from Mariánské Hradby Street. The program is incredibly rich, guaranteeing satisfaction to both comedy and tragedy lovers.

A tip for you: Shakespeare Festivals of this kind also take place in Brno (Špilberk Castle), Ostrava (Slezskoostravský Castle) and Bratislava (Bratislava Castle).

The Břetislavka Residence team wish you a lovely cultural experience.
